After two weeks of being closed to the public, Ospital ng Sampaloc in the country’s capital now accepts consultations as the Manila health department battles the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The hospital was temporarily closed after five workers were diagnosed with COVID-19.

With doctors, nurses and other hospital staff finishing their quarantine, the hospital now serves as a birthing home and accepts pediatric consultations.

Sampaloc continues to register the most number of individuals who have tested positive for the virus.

A total of 99 of the 458 cases in Manila were traced in Sampaloc.

Residents in the area have been preparing for a more strict implementation of the community quarantine.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said a 48-hour total lockdown might take effect in Sampaloc to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Under a total lockdown, all residents, except for frontliners, will not be allowed to leave their homes.

Food packs are now being distributed to residents and buying essentials will also be not allowed once the total lockdown is enforced.
