MANILA- Archbishop Gilbert Garcera was installed Friday as the new leader of the archdiocese of Lipa at the San Sebastian Cathedral.

Garcera, 58, succeeds retired Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and is the 8th archbishop to lead Lipa.

Top Church leaders in the country as well as government officials from Camarines Norte, where he served as bishop for the past decade, attended the mass and installation of Garcera, a report of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) News said.

“To be an archbishop, to be a bishop, to be a priest is not about position… it’s about pastoral charity. According to Pope Francis it’s about service,” Garcera was quoted by CBCP News.
