MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte should investigate Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Martin Delgra III for alleged corruption, a subordinate that he fired said Monday.

Jun Abrazaldo, former head of LTFRB-Bicol Region, accused Delgra of "lawyering" for a bus company that was involved in an accident that left 3 people dead in Quezon province.

Delgra, he said, told him to transfer the investigation to the LTFRB's main office even though the Bicol branch has jurisdiction since the bus was registered in the region.

"Nanawagan nga po ako sa ating mahal na Pangulo na sana po maimbestigahan po itong chairman na ito... dahil ang source ng corruption, wala naman po sa atin," Abrazaldo told DZMM.

(I appeal to our President to investigate this chairman because the source of corruption is not on our end.)

Abrazaldo was recently removed from his post "on grounds of corruption," Delgra had said.

The allegations, Abrazaldo said, were "manufactured" because Delgra wanted him out for opposing him.

He said he was ready to open his bank accounts to scrutiny and present evidence of Delgra's alleged wrongdoings.

DELGRA ON DEFENSE

Delgra said he had no hand in Abrazaldo's removal because the latter was a presidential appointee, who can only be fired by Duterte.

The LTFRB chairman, however, admitted that he sent Duterte confidential reports of Abrazaldo's alleged corrupt practices, but said he showed the same reports to his erstwhile employee.

Delgra also said he sought the transfer of the investigation into the Quezon bus accident because the involved unit has an inter-regional route so its jurisdiction falls under the main office.

Delgra said he is ready to disprove any other corruption allegation.
