Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA -- State seismologists on Tuesday encouraged the public to check if they are living near fault lines through a few clicks on a mobile app after temblors rocked parts of Luzon and Visayas this week.“FaultFinder” maps the country’s fault lines and could determine a person’s location to show if he or she is staying near a danger zone, said Arturo Daag, Phivolcs Chief Science Research Specialist.“Pag bibili kayo ng property, matitingnan niyo kung malapit kayo sa fault or hindi,” he said.(If you are planning to buy a property, you can use it to check if it’s near a fault.)“Kung malaki ‘yung property, puwede mong madesign na ‘yung malapit sa fault ay open space,” he said.(If the property is big, you can use it to design open spaces along faults.)The Department of Science and Technology is also working on “Hazard Hunter,” a similar app that maps flood and landslide-prone areas.“Pag tinuro mo ang lugar, sasabihin niya gaano ka kalayo sa hazard or ano yung hazard na meron ka,” Daag said.(You can choose a location, and the app would tell you how far it is from a hazard.)So far, “FaultFinder” is available for Android phones, but could be accessed through the Phivolcs website.“Hazard Hunter” is expected to be launched by mid-2019, Daag said.
