There was this na kasama &#x27;yung mga pinsan and they’re not prohibited,” Interior Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya told ANC’s Headstart.</p><p>The second degree of consanguinity extends to a person&#x27;s parents, children, grandparents, siblings and grandchildren. The second degree of affinity, meanwhile, extends to the spouse, the parents-in-law, and the children-in-law.</p><p>Cousins, nephews, and nieces are not included, unlike what several officials thought, Malaya said.</p><p>&quot;The misimpression here on the understanding on what is covered, I think, had an effect on those who would like to run for SK,&quot; he said.</p><p>Another possible reason for the low candidate registration in some areas was the move to raise the age range of eligible candidates to 18 to 24 years old from the previous range of 15 to 18.</p><p>&quot;Many of these are in college, are now working. They may have some misgivings ‘whether I can perform the tasks of an SK [official] given the fact that I already have other responsibilities’,&quot; he said.</p><p>While thousands have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the positions of chairman or kagawad, the Commission on Elections is still awaiting the turnout report from 8 cities in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).</p><p>The filing of COCs began on April 14 while the campaign period will be from May 4 to 12. The barangay and SK elections is set on May 14.</p><p>The last barangay elections were held in October 2013, while the last SK elections were held in October 2010.</p>
