MANILA—Pet animals will now be allowed inside public utility vehicles, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said in a memo dated April 15 and announced publicly on its website Friday.

According to Memorandum Circular No. 2019-019, PUVs may carry pets as long as the animals are inside carriers and placed in a designated animal compartment of the vehicle "should there be other passengers."

If there are no other passengers, owners may carry their pets, as long as the animals don't stink, said the memorandum, which added that owners are responsible for cleanliness and sanitation.

The measure, however, did not say which animals are considered pets.

The LTFRB reminded pet owners that the safety, convenience and comfort of others passengers should not be sacrificed.

The measure takes effect following the publication in general circulation and after filing 3 copies with the UP Law Center.
