Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA - An environment group urged candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to clean up their own posters, streamers, and flyers as the 9-day campaign period came to a close on Saturday.“Voluntarily removing all remnants of the campaign frenzy is a nice way of expressing magnanimity in victory, as well as graciousness in defeat,” said Daniel Alejandre, Zero Waste Campaigner for the EcoWaste Coalition.Aside from taking down campaign materials posted on walls and lamp posts, candidates must also observe proper waste disposal, the group said. &quot;Discarded campaign materials should be segregated, not mixed altogether, to facilitate their proper recycling or disposal,&quot; Alejandre said.&quot;Dumping campaign discards on streets, vacant lots, storm drains and water bodies, or setting them on fire are forbidden by our laws to protect public health and the environment,&quot; he added.The EcoWaste Coalition said it would hold a &quot;demonstration on the creative and safe recycling&quot; of used poll campaign materials on Tuesday, a day after the May 14 polls.&quot;The EcoWaste Coalition will promote and show how discarded poll campaign materials such as leaflets, sample ballots and posters can be transformed into decorative and functional items,&quot; the group said.
