MANILA -- Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday said she was hoping for a "miracle" for opposition candidates in midterm elections that would determine if President Rodrigo Duterte could bring more allies to the Senate.

Robredo said election results in the past "exceeded" her expectations, when she won a House seat in 2013 and the vice presidency in 2016.

Robredo rued alleged vote-buying and admitted that many local officials did not support Otso Diretso, preventing it from reaching far-flung areas where voters only rely on sample ballots.
