SAN JOSE, Antique - Former Antique Governor Exequiel Javier has filed a motion to defer the proclamation of Sen. Loren Legarda, who is leading the congressional race in Antique's lone district.

He said the Comelec en banc has not resolved his motion for reconsideration questioning Legarda's residency.

"It is the right of the people of Antique to be represented by one of their own, not a latecomer who only sprouted like a mushroom in the light of day," Javier said in his motion.

Legarda declared in her certificate of candidacy (COC) that she is a resident of Barangay Mag-aba in Pandan town in January 2018, her lawyer George Garcia earlier said.

The senator has roots in Antique where a grandfather of hers once served as a local official, the lawyer added.

The provincial board of canvassers in Antique would proclaim the winners following the successful transmission of poll results in Bugasong town.

With over 99.85 percent of votes canvassed as of 9:22 p.m. Tuesday, Legarda enjoyed a wide margin, receiving 198,793 votes.

Javier, whose family has dominated Antique politics for more than 30 years, got 69,598 votes.
