George Calvelo, ABS CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA - In the halls where he spent much of his time in public service, the late Senate President Edgardo Angara will return one last time.Angara, the Senator who served the longest since the restoration of democracy in 1986, is set to be honored in necrological services Wednesday morning at the Senate, an event expected to gather generations of politicians and top lawyers, among others.The 83-year-old, a lawmaker of 23 years, lifetime educator and patron of the arts, passed away Sunday due to a heart attack.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/13/18/former-senator-edgardo-angara-passes-away">Former Senator Edgardo Angara passes away</a></li></ul>The rites are set 10 a.m. at the Senate session hall, with former Presidents Gloria Arroyo and Joseph Estrada among those scheduled to deliver a eulogy, said Dennis Legaspi, communications director of Angara’s son, Sen. Sonny Angara.Angara served with Arroyo in the Senate from 1992 to 1998, and then served as Agriculture Secretary and later Executive Secretary under Estrada’s presidency.Also expected to speak as a tribute for Angara are former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr., his son, current Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, former senators Rene Saguisag and Pia Cayetano, and incumbent lawmakers Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, Joel Villanueva, Richard Gordon, Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Loren Legarda.Angara’s wife, Gloria, children Sonny, Anna, Alex and Katya will be in attendance, along with his grandchildren.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2018/news/05/16/32720224_10156442415792002_6049089002621894656_n.jpg"/><figcaption>Honor guards stand at attention at the Senate grounds ahead of necrological services for the late Senate President Edgardo Angara on May 16, 2018. Tarra Quismundo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>The longtime statesman was known to have pushed for critical legislation, including the Free High School Act, the Government Assistance To Students and Teachers in Private Education Act, the Magna Carta for Health Workers, the Breastfeeding Law, the Renewable Energy Act, the Senior Citizens Act , and Ombudsman Law among others.On Friday, Angara will be honored at the University of the Philippines, where he finished his law degree in 1958 and later served as president.His remains will be at the UP Law Auditorium until Saturday, when he will be brought to his hometown, Baler.
