MANILA- Human error caused the collapse of a flyover in Imus, Cavite, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said Monday.

Villar explained that initial investigation showed there was an error on the part of the operator in placing the last girder or concrete beam in the flyover, causing the collapse.

"Based sa preliminary findings namin, human error talaga yung cause. Nagkamali naman talaga ang operator at inamin naman nila na nagkamali sila sa pag-launch ng final girder," he told DZMM.

(Human error is the cause according to our preliminary findings. The operator made a mistake in launching the final girder and they admitted it.)

Part of the flyover which is under construction collapsed Saturday, causing a road closure along Emilio Aguinaldo Highway corner Daang Hari.

Although no one was reported hurt in the incident, the collapsed beams crushed a trailer truck and a motorcycle of a traffic enforcer.

As of Monday morning, Villar said the road was already passable to vehicles.

He also explained that rebuilding of the flyover will incur no additional cost to the government since it will be shouldered by the contractor, JBL Builders.

The project, however, will be delayed from the supposed June deadline to December.

"Medyo made-delay yung project kasi kailangan ulit magfabricate ng girders," Villar said.

(The project will be delayed for a while because there is a need to fabricate new girders.)
