MANILA - The number coding is still lifted as Metro Manila transitions into general community quarantine beginning Monday, the region's traffic czar said Sunday.

It will be lifted from Monday until Friday, according to Bong Nebrija, EDSA traffic chief of the Metro Manila Development Authority.

"Since limited pa rin ang transpo, minabuti na lang po ng kagawaran is i-lift muna natin ang number coding para magbigay daan sa mga frontliners natin na makabiyahe, at the same time yung mga naninibago pa mag-commute," he told ABS-CBN's Teleradyo.

"Give them time to adjust, kaya wala pong number coding tomorrow until Friday."

The MMDA has decided to delay the implementation of the modified number coding, Nebrija said without giving further details.

"Sa ating commuters, empower yourselves with information, kung saan po kayo sasakay at i-anticipate po ang delay. Kaya mag-adjust po tayo sa travel time natin," he said.

Private vehicles will allow 2 passengers per row, Nebrija said.

"The basic rule is, you count the number of rows ng sasakyan; each, row tig-2 lang po, dulo at dulo. Sa sedan, 4 ang pwede. Sa SUV, 6," he said.

For ride-hailing vehicles, a division between the passenger and driver is required, and both are required to wear face masks, Nebrija said. The car should be sanitized after every ride, he added.

Bikes are also allowed to traverse EDSA due to the lack of public transportation, according to Nebrija. Backrides, however, are still prohibited.

"Di na po namin sinusuway yan. Pinapakiusapan namin na sa gilid na lang sila dumaan," he said.

The Land Transportation Office has also extended the validity of expired drivers' licenses until Aug. 1, Nebrija said.

The transportation department earlier said public transportation would resume in 2 phases under GCQ. The first phase from June 1 to 21 will allow the operation of permitted train and bus augmentation units, taxis, ride-hailing cars, point-to-point buses, shuttle services and bicycles, but at limited capacity.

The second phase from June 22 to 30 will allow public utility buses, modern jeepneys and UV express vans.
