MANILA—The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Wednesday apologized for using an inverted Philippine flag in its Independence Day greeting.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the ASEAN posted a photo of 4 people holding the flag upside down, with the red band on top, instead of the blue one. In this position, the Philippines signifies that it is at war.

The post has since been deleted.

"We apologize for the mistake in the previous picture. Your kind feedbacks are highly appreciated," ASEAN said.

In 2016, Facebook made the same blunder and said it was unintentional.
