MANILA - The Quezon City government on Saturday said two more streets have been placed under special concern lockdown (SCL) following a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases there.

In a statement, QC Assistant City Administrator Alberto Kimpo said 138 Ermin Garcia St. and 52 Imperial St., both in Barangay E. Rodriguez, have been placed under special lockdown, with one more area under consideration.

The city government did not say how long the lockdown will remain in effect. The SCL restricts movement within an area.

“From two active cases, the number of COVID-19 cases in these two areas went up to 15, this came after Metro Manila eased into general community quarantine (GCQ),” said Kimpo.

The region shifted to GCQ on June 1, as cases in the country continued to rise, with Quezon City among areas with the highest number of cases.

The SCL was enforced after the QC government verified the request of the village chief together with the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QC-ESU) and other barangay officials.

Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the QC-ESU, said they would conduct rapid diagnostic testing (RDT) on residents on Monday.

“Confirmatory tests will follow once we get the RDT results,” said Cruz.

Kimpo said the city government is also mulling to place Cadena de Amor Street in Barangay Central under SCL after 3 positive cases were recorded in two different households.

“The patients are under home quarantine and have been swabbed for confirmatory testing,” said Kimpo.

Now also under SCL are Sitio Militar in Barangay Bahay Toro, Calle 29 in Barangay Libis, and Kaingin Bukid in Barangay Apolonio Samson.

Earlier, the city government lifted the SCL in these areas when they were declared clear of COVID-19: Dakila Street, Kalayaan B, and Masbate Street in Barangay Batasan Hills; Vargas Street, GK Ancop, and Certeza Compound in Barangay Culiat; Lower Gulod in Barangay Sauyo; Victory Avenue, BMA Avenue, Agno Street., and ROTC Hunters in Barangay Tatalon; and Howmart Road in Barangay Baesa.
