MANILA (UPDATE)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday tagged the mother of Sen. Antonio Trillanes III, Estelita, and alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles in the supposed anomalous purchase of Kevlar helmets.

Duterte also alleged that both parents of the outgoing senator were involved in graft and corruption at Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

"So kung may pera doon, sila 'yon. Hindi kami. Wala pa kami noon. If there was something wrong, if there was money there, kila Trillanes 'yon, hindi sa amin. Ang No. 1 na graft and corruption diyan noon sa PMA, 'yung tatay niya pati 'yung nanay niya," Duterte said.

"Remember 'yung Kevlar? It's a helmet na matigas na hindi matamaan ng . . . kung bala hindi masyado maka-penetrate. That's Kevlar. Ang nag-deliver noon ang nanay ni Trillanes pati si Napoles. 'Yan ang totoo diyan."

In 2001, Napoles and her husband, retired Marine Maj. Jaime Napoles, were charged with graft and malversation of public funds in connection with the alleged irregular purchase of 500 Kevlar helmets worth P3.8 million.

Duterte earlier claimed that Trillanes' mother, Estelita, was a supplier for the Philippine Navy, in a potential case of conflict of interest due to the senator's status as then-Navy officer.

Trillanes has denied this and said his mother was suffering from advanced Parkinson’s Disease. He added there were no cases filed against his mother.

In a statement Saturday, the senator belied Duterte's claims, saying the substandard Kevlar helmets were among the issues that he and other soldiers protested during the Oakwood Mutiny in 2003.

"Kung may kinalaman ang mga magulang ko d’yan, dapat nu’n pa lang, nilabas na ni GMA (Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) ’yan at ginamit laban sa’kin," he said.

Trillanes added that his father was never assigned at the PMA, while his mother stopped doing business before he entered the police academy in 1991.

"Ganu’n pa man, hinahamon ko si Duterte na magpursigi pa sa pag-imbestiga at haharapin namin ’yan," he said.

(Nevertheless, I challenge Duterte to purse investigation, which we will face.)
