MANILA — Descendants of Filipino soldiers who fought during the Korean War in the 1950s may avail of the scholarship program offered by the Philippine Expeditionary Force in Korea (PEFTOK) Veterans Association Inc., the group said.In a Facebook post Wednesday, the association said the scholarship is for high school and college students, and application is until July 15.<script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/PeftokScholarships/posts/120381896387690" data-width="auto"> </div>&quot;Only one scholar is allowed per veteran in (Academic Year) 2020-2021. Descendants are encouraged to apply even if their veterans have had two previous scholars,&quot; it said.Aspiring scholars may fill out a form through this <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScgIyarx2VB-eDMsRbIvICgB6nqYW3ztbsBXE11b3ASj76dEw/viewform">link</a>.PEFTOK reminded aspiring scholars to prepare a working email or Facebook Messenger profile, academic information, and veteran&#x27;s information, among others, for the application.In its <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PeftokScholarships/posts/100725211686692">guidelines</a>, PEFTOK said applicants who availed the scholarship for 3 or more years in the past are disqualified from receiving the grant for the upcoming school year.PEFTOK was the Philippine military&#x27;s contingent to the war between North and South Korea that broke out in June 1950.According to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, the Philippines was the first Asian country to send combat troops to fight alongside South Korean forces for the said war.A total of 7,420 Filipino soldiers took part in the battle, of whom, over 100 died, more than 300 were wounded, and 16 went missing-in-action.
