The government reclaimed one of the Maute group’s strongholds on Monday, the military said Tuesday.

In a statement, the military said government forces reclaimed control of Dansalan College, which served as machine gun nests and snipers’ vantage position of the Maute group.

Government troops recovered the body of a “foreign-looking individual,” believed to be a foreign fighter from Singapore.

The military said 11 foreign fighters have been killed, as of posting.

The troops also recovered .50 caliber heavy machine guns and 14 other high-powered firearms.

Dansalan College, the alma mater of the Maute brothers, was one of the buildings razed by the terrorist group when they attacked Marawi City on May 23.

Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., chief of the Western Mindanao Command, said clearing operations are prioritized for the safety of trapped civilians.

"Our soldiers, together with our civilian counterparts, will do everything in their power to locate more trapped civilians and device steps to rescue as many as possible,” he said.

Brig. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista, commander of Joint Task Force Marawi, assured government forces will clear Marawi City of terrorists soon.

"It will just be a matter of time and our soldiers will fully liberate Marawi from terrorists and criminal gangs who brought mayhem to this city. We owe this to our Maranao brothers and sisters. Our soldiers fully know what is at stake and we will strive together to neutralize these criminals in order to bring peace and normalcy in Marawi,” he said.

Around 500 civilians are still trapped in the conflict zone in Marawi City, while 1,717 have been rescued, officials said.
