The Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory on Wednesday said the DNA sample on the blood stain from the boat that was allegedly used in transporting slain Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel was found consistent with that of Boniel's mother.

Gisela Boniel was allegedly killed on June 8 by her husband, Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel.

Ethan Boniel, the suspect's cousin, said Niño Rey shot the mayor using his own gun and dumped the mayor's body in the sea surrounding Caubian Island, Cebu.

Niño Rey pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges on June 29.
