A local disaster responder spreads the wings of a juvenile Brahminy kite after the bird was rescued in a fish pond in Ilog town, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (UPDATED) — A juvenile Brahminy kite rescued by a fishpond worker in Ilog town in Negros Occidental was turned over to a wildlife conservationists center in Bacolod City.

The Brahminy kite, locally called as "dapay", found refuge at the Talarak Foundation Inc. Center after it was turned over by staff from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources office in Kabankalan City.

It was barely able to fly when a fishpond worker from Ilog town handed it over to the local disaster response unit on Saturday.

Authorities mistakenly identified the juvenile bird as a hawk eagle, an endemic and endangered species.
