MANILA - The police security detail of opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was not ordered removed, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde clarified Saturday.

Trillanes earlier said his police security detail was recalled at the end of June.

Speaking to reporters, Albayalde said it is likely that the order for Trillanes' police security detail simply expired and needs to be renewed.

"Walang utos 'yan, it’s probably nag-expire na 'yung duty ng sinasabing security and they have to be renewed [pati] 'yung letter-order nila to provide security," he said in an interview on the sidelines of incorporation rites for PNP cadets of the Alab Kalis Class of 2022.

"I will check with the director. May proseso 'yan. Hindi kasi forever 'yan,” he added.

(There is no such order. Probably the duty of the security detail expired and they have to be renewed as well as their letter-order to provide security... There is a process. That's not forever.)

Trillanes revealed the recall of his police security detail after a netizen reported that police escorts of slain Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili were removed before he was killed.

Halili's security detail from the PNP were recalled in 2017.

The mayor, who was known for ordering suspected criminals to take "walks of shame," was shot dead during a flag ceremony in his city early this month.

He is among several mayors and vice mayors slain under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Albayalde added that the PNP is streamlining investigations on the different killings.

"Investigation is also underway for the assassination of Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili," he said.
