PLM employee dies of COVID-19

<p><br/>MANILA - The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) said late Wednesday a female employee died due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), prompting contact tracing and disinfection in its campus.</p><p>The 57-year-old employee, who passed away early Wednesday, is one of 3 university employees who were found to be infected with the new coronavirus, PLM said in a statement.</p><p>One of the employees had already recovered from the respiratory illness while the other was still recovering in a hospital, PLM said.</p><p>PLM said the fatality experienced flu-like symptoms on July 11, 2 days after she last went to campus.</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/PLM.Haribon/posts/4085658131505485" data-width="auto"> </div><p>&quot;Her symptoms worsened the following week, which led to her taking a swab test and her confinement at a Manila hospital where she eventually passed away,&quot; the university said.</p><p>Even though 3 employees had tested positive, PLM said there was still no COVID-19 transmission within campus grounds.</p><p>The university said its COVID-19 task force has started looking for those who came in contact with the infected employees, and decontaminated the work area of the employee who passed away.</p><p>PLM added that it disinfects the campus every morning and afternoon, and frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and stairway rails every two hours.</p><p>The number of employees physically reporting for work is also limited, PLM said.</p><p>&quot;Staff deployment plans are approved weekly to ensure that offices are operating only at limited capacity and strict social distancing is enforced, while the campus remains off-limits to visitors,&quot; it said.</p><p>Classes in PLM will start on September 3.</p><p>On Wednesday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines reached 72,269, of which 1,843 died.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/07/22/20/philippines-covid19-cases-coronavirus-update-july222020">Philippines&#x27; coronavirus cases soar to 72,269 with 1,594 new infections</a></li></ul><div> </div>
