<p>MANILA - Malacañang on Friday released a copy of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, a measure that is envisioned to bring greater autonomy and more power to the Bangsamoro region in Mindanao.</p><p>Republic Act 11054, or the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, repeals RA 6734 which established the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.</p><p>The Bangsamoro Organic Law is the product of years of negotiations between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the Philippines’ largest Muslim separatist group.</p><p>The law aims to “establish a political entity, provide its basic structure of government in recognition of the justness and legitimacy of the cause of the Bangsamoro people and the aspirations of Muslim Filipinos and all indigenous cultural communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to secure their identity and posterity, allowing for meaningful self-governance within the framework of the Constitution and the national sovereignty as well as territorial integrity of the Republic of the Philippines.”</p><div><strong>Below is a copy of the law:</strong></div><div><p style="margin:12px auto 6px auto;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:14px;line-height:normal;font-size-adjust:none;font-stretch:normal;-x-system-font:none;display:block"><a href="https://www.scribd.com/document/384834345/Bangsamoro-Organic-Law#from_embed" style="text-decoration:underline" title="View Bangsamoro Organic Law on Scribd">Bangsamoro Organic Law</a> by <a href="https://www.scribd.com/user/418189412/ABS-CBN-News#from_embed" style="text-decoration:underline" title="View ABS-CBN News" s="" profile="" on="">ABS-CBN News</a> on Scribd</p><iframe class="scribd_iframe_embed" data-aspect-ratio="1.4135254988913526" data-auto-height="false" frameBorder="0" height="600" id="doc_22562" scrolling="no" src="https://www.scribd.com/embeds/384834345/content?start_page=1&amp;view_mode=scroll&amp;access_key=key-eEX29D5edpGgkTepJIQG&amp;show_recommendations=true" title="Bangsamoro Organic Law" width="100%"></iframe></div><p>Duterte&#x27;s predecessor, former President Benigno Aquino III, forged the peace agreement with the MILF in 2014 but failed to get Congress to pass a self-rule law before he stepped down in 2016.</p><p>The 16th Congress halted debates due to public outrage over the deaths of 44 police commandos in a botched anti-terrorism raid in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in January 2015, where some MILF members were accused of involvement.</p><p>Some provisions in the Bangsamoro law&#x27;s earlier versions also faced questions on constitutionality.</p><p>Duterte, the first Mindanaoan president, breathed new life into the Bangsamoro law, as he expanded the Bangsamoro Transition Commission which then went back to the drawing board and produced the proposed measure that the 17th Congress tackled and passed.</p>
