Fujiwhara effect 'unlikely' with Hanna and weather disturbance off Pacific

<p>MANILA - Typhoon Hanna and the severe tropical storm monitored off the Pacific Ocean is unlikely to interact with each other to cause a dumbbell or Fujiwhara effect, state weather bureau said on Wednesday.</p><p>&quot;Walang direktang epekto ang dalawang bagyo at &#x27;di po natin inaasahan magkaroon ng dumbell effect,&quot; said weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.</p><p>The Fujiwhara effect is characterized by two cyclones orbiting each other.</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/PAGASA.DOST.GOV.PH/photos/a.302759263167323/2248935835216313/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>Aurelio said Hanna was spotted 590 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 4 p.m. It was packing maximum winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 170 kph.</p><p>Hanna was moving north northwest at 15 kph. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday afternoon.</p><p>Hanna however is not expected to make landfall but typhoon signal number 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/PAGASA.DOST.GOV.PH/photos/a.302759263167323/2248935465216350/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of areas under signal no. 1, the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao due to potentially rough sea conditions.</p><p>Moderate to heavy monsoon rains will continue over the northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Zambales, Bataan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Guimaras. </p><p>Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains.</p><p>Meanwhile, Pagasa said Severe Tropical Storm Krosa was located at 2,010 km east of Northern Luzon as of 4 p.m. Krosa has a maximum wind of 95 kph with 115 kph gustiness. It is moving at north northwest at 15 kph but is not expected to enter PAR.</p><p>Monsoon rains caused by the southwest monsoon is also expected over Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras.</p><p>Habagat will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to Central Visayas and the rest of Luzon and of Western Visayas and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.</p><p>Aside from the two weather disturbances, a low pressure area was also spotted off the West Philippine Sea particularly 325 km west of Dagupan City in Pangasinan.</p><p>But Pagasa said the LPA is less likely to develop into a tropical depression.</p><div><strong>Visit the <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/weather">ABS-CBN Weather Center</a> for the latest weather updates.</strong></div>
