Albayalde sacks Northern Samar cops after alleged NPA ambush

MANILA - Philippine National Police chief, Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde has relieved all policemen of Lapinig Municipal Police, Northern Samar pending an investigation into the alleged ambush by the New People's Army early Friday.

Aside from Lapinig policemen, also ordered relieved were Northern Samar Provincial Director Senior Supt. Romeo Campomanes, 2nd Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company Commander Chief Insp. Juan Byron, and PRO-Eastern Visayas Director Chief Supt. Mariel Magaway.

In a statement, authorities said firearms and gadgets went missing after the ambush. Two police officers, PO2 Jerry Quilicol and PO1 Edison Aguire, were also wounded.

PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Benigno Durana, earlier said around 100 members of the rebel group stormed the police station.
