LOOK: Marikina gov't uses modular tents for its evacuees

The local government of Marikina City is earning praise for using modular tents for residents forced to stay in government shelters due to floods.

Each tent measures 3x3 meters and can fit seven people. The modular tents provide privacy especially for women and children, according to the local government.

Around 18,534 residents in Marikina City were forced to evacuate as the floods rose. As of 7 p.m. Sunday, at least 4,000 families are still staying in Marikina covered courts and schools that serve as evacuation centers.

The local government is also providing medicine to evacuees.

The Marikina River's water level is at 17.1 meters as of 7:05 p.m. Sunday. Floods have subsided in some areas but has left behind thick mud.

Meanwhile, the local government of Makati City has also acquired modular tents for its residents to be used in emergencies.
