MANILA- The Quezon City government will open the bidding for the future sanitary landfill of the city, a local official said Friday.

This after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) denied the city government's request to extend the use of the Payatas sanitary landfill until the end of the year.

City Administrator Aldrin Cuña said the local government will open the bidding to existing sanitary landfills which can accommodate the city's waste.

"Wala nang sites ang Quezon City for another sanitary landfill that's why Quezon City has gone to the point na ang current sanitary landfill ng Payatas is scheduled really for closure. Naunahan lang tayo ng kautusan ng DENR na isara," said Cuña.

The city currently has 6 contractors that haul the garbage from 6 districts. Additional and larger garbage trucks are also deployed to solve problems on delays on garbage pick-up.
