Ronen Zvulun, Reuters pool</figcaption></figure></div>(UPDATED) MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday afternoon visited the Open Doors Monument in Israel to cap his historic visit to the Jewish state.Duterte’s visit to the monument is a fitting end to his Israel trip as this was built by Israel in honor of the Philippines’ “open door” policy for Jews fleeing the Holocaust.Israel views its ties with the Philippines as special as the latter provided refuge to about 1,300 Jews who escaped the Holocaust. Duterte’s visit will finally reciprocate the visit of the late King Hussein to the Philippines on March 1, 1976, which also marked the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Israel.
