CEBU - Former Mandaue City Councilor Beethoven Andaya was found dead at a resort in Santander, southern Cebu, on Monday.

Police said they received a report that the bloodied Andaya was seen lying beside a pistol and some cash.

Authorities, however, have ruled out that Andaya committed suicide.

According to Superintendent Mario Baquiron, Jr., investigation showed that two men went inside Andaya's rented room before he was found dead.

They were also signs of a struggle inside as some objects were not in order.

Those who rented the rooms adjacent to Andaya's room never heard a gun shot.

Some cash were also seen on the floor and Andaya's wallet was thrown outside the room.

The case could be a robbery, police said.

Baquiron added that the gun seen near Andaya's body could be his, and that he may have tried to defend himself.

No gunshot wounds were seen on the front part of Andaya's body, based on initial investigation of the Santander Police.

Police are now searching for witnesses who can give them a profile of the two men who went inside Andaya's room.

There were no CCTV cameras in the room's vicinity.

Andaya ran for vice mayor in the 2016 elections. He and his running mate, Lollipop Ouano, lost.
