MANILA - Grab Philippines on Wednesday reminded the public that its car services could only serve up to 4 passengers after a driver was reportedly assaulted over rider limit.

The incident happened around 6:50 a.m. on Monday at Barangay Del Monte, Quezon City, according to Grab Philippines.

The driver was physically assaulted after he refused to accommodate 5 passengers as they exceeded the transport network company's 4-passenger limit for its GrabCar service.

Grab offers a 6-seater service for a premium amount.

"Following the safety standards of car manufacturers having a maximum capacity of 5 passengers for cars including the driver, Grab Cars can only accommodate up to 4 passengers," Grab Philippines said in a statement.

One of the passengers was a child, and Grab said minors are included in the count.

"Children, regardless of age, shall be counted as one passenger," the company said.

"We wish to reiterate to our Grab community to be mindful and respectful of our standard policies, and to observe responsible use of the Grab platform to ensure safety and security to each and every one," it said.

It added that in case of accidents, the mandated insurance policy and Grab's third party insurer "only covers the allowable number of passengers in a car."

Grab said it has extended medical support and legal assistance to the injured driver.
