MANILA- House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo refused to comment Wednesday on the arrest of opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV due to the revival of his rebellion case.

Asked for comment, Arroyo simply responded: "No reaction."

When it was pointed out that the rebellion case stemmed from Trillanes' participation in a failed uprising against her administration, Arroyo maintained: "Still, no reaction.”

In an ordeal that lasted for over 4 hours on Tuesday, Trillanes was arrested by police after a Makati court revived the rebellion case against him for his participation in the 2007 Manila Peninsula Siege.

The revival of the case comes after President Rodrigo Duterte voided the amnesty granted to Trillanes by Arroyo's successor, former President Benigno Aquino III.

Trillanes was taken into police custody and later posted a P200,000 bail for his temporary liberty.

A former Navy lieutenant, Trillanes tried to overthrow Arroyo's government twice--in 2003 and 2007 to protest alleged corruption in her administration.

Trillanes, along with his Magdalo band of soldiers, first took over the Oakwood luxury apartments in Makati City on July 27, 2003.

Four years later, the group walked out of their Makati court hearing and occupied the Manila Peninsula hotel.

Aside from rebellion charges, Trillanes was also charged with coup d'etat before another Makati court and violation of Articles of War 96 (conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman) and 97 (conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline) before a military court.
