'Jenny' could become typhoon; heavy rains forecast over Luzon areas

It is moving west-northwestward at 15 kph.From Sunday to Monday noon, the weather agency said Jenny will bring heavy rains of up to 25 mm over mainland Cagayan, Isabela, and Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.By Monday noon to Tuesday noon, it will dump 50-100 mm rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, and Isabela.From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao could expect rain of from 50-100 mm.Jenny will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat which could bring occasional rains over the western portions of Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next three days, PAGASA said.&quot;Forecast rainfall [is] generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas. Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible,&quot; it warned.PAGASA is not ruling out Jenny making landfall or a close approach of extreme northern Luzon &quot;since these scenarios are within the forecast confidence cone.&quot;<div>ROUGH SEAS, STORM SIGNALS POSSIBLE</div>Tropical cyclone wind signals may be raised over the lightly populated extreme northern Luzon by Sunday afternoon or night in anticipation of severe winds, the weather bureau warned.The state forecaster advised mariners of motor bancas and other similar vessels to be cautious while venturing out to sea as the storm would bring moderate to rough seas of up to 4 meters over the coastal waters of extreme northern Luzon and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan. &quot;[I]f possible, avoid navigating in these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels,&quot; it added.<div>For more updates, visit the <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/weather">ABS-CBN weather center</a>. </div>
