The ANC Brief: Going after “ninja cops”

The President’s trip to Russia and now the administration will have to deal with the issue of “ninja cops.” Here are the top stories making the headlines on ANC today:

Whiff of drugs
President Duterte said he will take care of the “ninja cops,” or policemen involved in recycling illegal drugs once he returns from Russia. He also clarified no generals are “ninja cops.” Nonetheless, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has started its probe into so-called “ninja cops.” On allegations against PNP Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde, the president said “give him proof.” So what happened to “just a whiff of corruption?”

Health of the president
Talking about President Duterte, he admitted he suffers an illness that causes muscle weakness. Add this to the other diseases he said he was suffering like Buerger’s disease (constriction of blood vessels) and Barrett’s esophagus (involving tissues of the esophagus), and a misaligned spine. He also went defeatist again and he said the Philippines doesn't have might in the sea dispute against China. During the trip, the Philippines and Russia agreed to craft labor deal for OFWs. President Duterte said the deals signed at a business forum are worth P620 million.

Telecommuting
Local firms are asked to allow telecommuting. This recommendation is included in a study, consultancy firm P&A Grant Thorton. The study said recent laws on telecommuting should be embraced by local businesses. If implemented fully, this could change the way we work.

Kidnapping
A British national and his Filipina wife were abducted in Zamboanga del Sur on Friday. Police have released pictures of persons-of-interest in the abduction of Allan and Wilma Hyron couple. A P1 million reward has been offered for leads on the kidnappers. Let’s try to get updates on this story.
