MANILA (UPDATE) - Malacañang on Monday denied that Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson was fired by President Rodrigo Duterte, after a report quoted a source saying that the chief executive gave the controversial official the boot.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea denied that Uson was fired by the President.

“Not true. She resigned,” Medialdea said in a text message.

Special Assistant to the President Bong Go also denied a report saying Uson was fired by the President.

"Not true," Go said.

Uson resigned last week to aid the passage of her agency's budget, but warned critics that her fight was not yet over.

Go earlier said the chief executive would likely accept Uson’s resignation.

"Nirerespeto po naman ang kanyang pagre-resign at nagpapasalamat rin kami kay Asec. Mocha sa kanyang naging serbisyo po sa gobyernong Duterte. Naging good ally po siya," Go told GMA News TV.

Uson also furnished a resignation letter, citing as reason for her resignation the Congress’ withholding of the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s 2019 budget because of her absence in the budget hearings.

Uson recently drew flak over a video about federalism that featured dancing and another clip that courted protests from the deaf community.

There have been instances where the President did not fire a high-ranking Cabinet official but asked for his or her resignation. This happened in the case of former information and communications secretary Rodolfo Salalima.
