<p>MANILA - Jesuit priest Fr. Romeo Intengan, an activist during the regime of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., died on Tuesday, October 10. </p><p>The Philippine Jesuits made the announcement through their official Facebook page. </p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/philippinejesuits/photos/a.1039762966142014.1073741828.968172313301080/1413311965453777/?type=3" data-width="auto"> </div><p>&quot;Almighty God, we remember before you today your faithful servant; and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, you will receive him more and more into your joyful service,&quot; the announcement said.</p><p>In a text message to ABS-CBN News, the Philippine Jesuits said Intengan passed away at 6:30 a.m.</p><p>Intengan entered the Society of Jesus in 1970 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1977. He served as the Philippine Jesuits from 1998 to 2004. </p><p>The priest also served as a doctor of medicine, having finished his medicine degree at the University of the Philippines in Manila. </p><p>He also had a licentiate in Sacred Theology which he earned from the Commillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain. </p><p>Aside from his religious order, Intengan was also a member of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board, Philippine National Health Research System, and the Department of Science and Technology, according to his profile on Ateneo De Manila University&#x27;s website. </p><div><strong>INCARCERATION AND EXILE</strong></div><p>During the Marcos regime, Intengan, together with former National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales, founded the Philippine Democratic Socialist Party (PDSP). </p><p>&quot;Both would be thrown in jail in 1978 for leading a march protesting the fraudulent elections held in April that year,&quot; according to a <a href="http://pcij.org/stories/romeo-j-intengan/]">report</a> by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ).</p><p>Two years later, Intengan fled the country and settle in Sabah by way of Jolo. </p><p>There he stayed in a camp which was run by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). For more than a year, her served as &quot;physician in residence, chaplain, and political officer.&quot; </p><p>Intengan&#x27;s wake on Tuesday night at the Oratory of St. Ignatius, Loyola House of Studies (Ateneo de Manila University campus, Loyola Heights, Quezon City).</p><p>The funeral mass is scheduled on Saturday, October 14 at 8 a.m. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Jesuit Cemetery, right after the funeral mass. </p>
