Another big source of Metro Cebu's potable water is faced with dwindling supply, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) said Thursday.

The Buhisan Dam, which usually holds 7,000 cubic meters of water, is now below critical level, generating only 2,300 cubic meters.

Its critical level is pegged at 3,000 cubic meters.

"When there is no more water that goes to the discharge pipe, we are alarmed, so we will be managing the water well," said MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez Kara.

Water service interruptions will be experienced in some areas of the metro. Areas with a large population and located in highlands will experience no water supply for 24 hours, MCWD said.

Water trucks have been deployed by MCWD to the affected areas.

The rains caused by the trough of super typhoon Hagibis helped but not enough to improve water supply in the province of Cebu, MCWD said.

MCWD has started to drill in 30 sites for possible sources of water. The drilling and testing will last up to 6 months, just in time for the dry season.

The facility manager earlier said the Jaclupan water basin in Talisay City also had its water supply reduced due to lack of rainfall in the province.
