<p>MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - A Filipino health frontliner in New Jersey in the US has died from her injuries after she was knocked down by a fleeing thief at the New York Times Square, a Philippine diplomat said Sunday.</p><p>Maria Ambrocio, 58, was walking through Times Square last Friday after visiting the Philippine Consulate General when she was struck by a thief who was allegedly being chased, said Consul General in New York Elmer Cato.</p><p>Ambrocio was removed from life support for the head injury sustained from being knocked down, according to Cato.</p><p>She died 8:28 p.m. Saturday (8:28 a.m. Sunday in Manila), her brother Carlito told the <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/10/09/woman-knocked-down-by-times-square-mugger-clinging-to-life">New York Post</a>.<br/> </p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/elmercato/posts/10158668056312532" data-width="auto"> </div><p>Cato urged authorities to &quot;take the necessary steps&quot; following a &quot;surge in anti-Asian hate incidents that targeted some of our kababayan.&quot;</p><p>&quot;We also supported calls for authorities to take the necessary measures to address mental health issues, especially among the homeless,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;We reiterate these calls as we mourn our loss but we also ask ourselves: How many more Maria Ambrocios do we have to mourn before the streets would be made safe again?&quot;</p><p>On Twitter, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr. instructed Cato to help Ambrocio&#x27;s family, to which he replied: &quot;Yes, Sir.
