Chuck Mathay, Roderick Paulate eye top QC posts

MANILA - Quezon City's former Congress representative Chuck Mathay and incumbent councilor Roderick Paulate on Thursday filed their certificate of candidacy for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Mathay will run against Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, while Paulate will face off with Councilor Gian Sotto, son of Senate President Tito Sotto.

Paulate urged rivals to reject "dirty politics" in the looming campaign period.

The actor-councilor, who serves in the city's second district, is facing graft and falsification charges for allegedly hiring ghost employees in 2010.

Mathay, meanwhile, is the son of the late former Quezon City Mayor Mel Mathay Jr., and is the father of actress Ara Mina.
