MANILA – At least 97 local government units failed to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to clear roads of obstructions within 60 days, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said Friday.The 97 LGUs which received a failed rating will be given 5 days to explain their non-compliance with the directive, according to the department.A total of 328 LGUs across the country received a high compliance rating, while 497 received a medium compliance rating and 323 received a low compliance rating.“Based on the report from 1,246 LGUs, 6,899 roads around the country were cleared through the cooperation of the provincial, city and municipal governments,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in a press conference in Quezon City.Among the highly compliant regions are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Cordillera Administrative Region.In Metro Manila, 12 LGUs were given a high compliance rating. These are the cities of Marikina, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Caloocan, Malabon, Las Piñas, Pasay, Valenzuela, Makati, Parañaque, Navotas, and the town of Pateros.Four cities, Quezon City, Pasig, Manila, and Muntinlupa, received a medium compliance rating.Only Taguig City was given a low compliance rating.“Taguig is for revalidation. We’re sending another team. When our team went there, there were still obstructions on major and secondary roads,” Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said.A total of 612 roads in Metro Manila were cleared, Año said.President Rodrigo Duterte had earlier given local chief executives across the country 60 days to reclaim all public roads being used for private ends. The deadline was on September 29.“The challenge now for mayors and barangay heads is on how to ensure that efforts are sustained,” Año said.“These are just the primary and secondary roads. We will address congestion in tertiary roads soon.”The DILG said it will also conduct a quarterly validation of the road clearing operations.
