ABS-CBN News file</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA- (UPDATE 2) President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Nicanor Faeldon as the next Bureau of Corrections chief, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Friday.Faeldon will replace BuCor chief Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; dela Rosa who is <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/12/18/ex-pnp-chief-bato-files-candidacy-for-senator">running</a> for senator in the 2019 midterm elections.&quot;The Department of Justice has interposed no objections to the proposed appointment of Mr. Faeldon, and is now seeking the favorable endorsement of the Civil Service Commission as part of the requirements under the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013,&quot; Guevarra added. The justice chief has also designated Ronaldo Ledesma as Bureau of Immigration OIC-Associate Commissioner and Atty. Grifton Medina as acting chief of the Ports Operations Division to replace BI OIC Deputy Commissioner Marc Red Mariñas who will run for <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/12/18/bi-deputy-commissioner-to-run-for-mayor-of-muntinlupa">Muntinlupa mayor</a>.‬ Prior to becoming <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/12/27/17/duterte-appoints-faeldon-to-office-of-civil-defense">deputy administrator</a> of the OCD, Faeldon was chief of the Bureau of Customs where he faced corruption allegations.He was implicated in the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu into the port of Manila and was also accused by Senator Panfilo Lacson of taking bribes in Customs, even allegedly receiving &quot;pasalubong&quot; money when he assumed office. <ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/08/23/17/lacson-says-faeldon-took-p100-m-pasalubong-at-customs-names-major-tara-recipients">Lacson says Faeldon took P100-M &#x27;pasalubong&#x27; at Customs, names major &#x27;tara&#x27; recipients</a></li></ul>Faeldon has repeatedly denied all these allegations.He was detained by a Senate panel in September last year for refusing to participate in a legislative inquiry on the illegal drug shipment from China.In January this year, he was transferred to the <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/01/30/18/faeldon-transferred-to-pasay-city-jail">Pasay City Jail</a> after bickering with Senator Richard Gordon during a hearing.
