Office of the Press Secretary/Facebook" src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2022/news/10/17/10172022-filmmaker-paul-soriano.jpg"/><figcaption>Filmmaker Paul Soriano (right) takes his oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as the new Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications at the Malacañang Palace on Oct. 17, 2022. <em>Office of the Press Secretary/Facebook</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA (<strong>2nd UPDATE</strong>) — Filmmaker Paul Soriano will join the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as Presidential Adviser for Creative Communications, Malacañang announced Monday.</p><p>In a statement, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) said Soriano agreed to take on the new post with an annual salary of only P1.</p><p>He took his oath before Marcos Jr. on Monday afternoon, together with Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia and Commissioners Nelson Celis and Ernesto Maceda Jr.</p><p>His wife, TV host and actress Toni Gonzaga, witnessed his oath-taking ceremony.</p><p>As Presidential Adviser for Creative Communications, Soriano is tasked to advise Marcos and assist government departments and agencies &quot;on matters that will enhance their information dissemination programs and initiatives,&quot; the OPS said.</p><p>&quot;You know, in this day and age, you need to do it creatively, and you need to communicate so that the mission and the vision and the message of the President is clearly communicated to the Filipino people,&quot; Soriano said after he was sworn into his new position.</p><p>&quot;It&#x27;s a passion of mine to just create and communicate. It&#x27;s an absolute honor that the President has trusted me with this position,&quot; he added.</p><div><strong>WHAT EXACTLY IS SORIANO’S ROLE?</strong></div><p>Lawyer and media law and ethics professor Atty. Marichu Lambino of the University of the Philippines&#x27; College of Mass Communications raised questions on what exactly Soriano&#x27;s role is as creative communications adviser.</p><p>Speaking to Teleradyo, Lambino said the term &quot;creative communications&quot; encompasses various kinds of content, and not just videos.</p><p>&quot;So ano ‘yung magiging relasyon niya sa Office of the Press Secretary professionally, or siya ba ‘yung pinagkakatiwalaan nung presidente. ‘Yun ang importante dito, sino ‘yung pinagkakatiwalaan nung presidente kasi kung sino ‘yung pinagkakatiwalaan nung presidente, mao-overrule niya lahat ng sabihin nung sinoman sa Office of the Press Secretary,&quot; she said.</p><p>(So what will be his relationship with the Office of the Press Secretary professionally, or is he the one the president trusts.
