MANILA - Members of the Aegis Jvris fraternity on Wednesday gave different answers when asked if they would be willing to give DNA samples in a bid to disprove involvement in the hazing rites that killed law freshman Horatio Castillo III.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian noted in a legislative inquiry that samples of DNA taken from the parents of Castillo matched blood stains in a hazing paddle and white shirt found in the Aegis Jvris fraternity office in Manila.

Manila police chief Joel Coronel said a DNA test could establish if the frat men had handled the blood-stained paddles.

Arvin Balag, believed to be the president of the Aegis Juris Fraternity, declined Gatchalian's suggestion to give DNA samples, saying: "Not at this time siguro, your honor."

Aegis Juris members Mark Ventura, Joshua Macapili, Bongget Rogelio and Axel Hipe also refused.

Frat men Oliver John Onofre, Ralph Trangia and Mhin Wei Chan meanwhile said they would give samples only if ordered to by a court.

Aegis Jvris member Jason Robiños, for his part, agreed to the DNA test. Robiños' camp earlier cited a CCTV footage that shows he was in his boarding house during the alleged hazing of Castillo.

Juan Miguel Salamat, Zimon Padro and Aaron Salientes also said they were willing to take the test.

John Paul Solano meanwhile said his samples would likely match that of Castillo.

Solano earlier said Aegis Jvris members summoned him to their office on the morning of Sept. 17, hours after the apparent hazing where Castillo collapsed. Solano then rushed Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital, where he died upon arrival.

"When I hear somebody say na payag siya [sa DNA test], tiyak na wala siya doon. Pero as long as you say na you don't want to subject yourself to DNA examination, most probably you were there," said Senator Panfilo Lacson.
