More than 300 open mufflers seized in Iligan City

ILIGAN CITY - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Iligan City Police Office have confiscated more than 300 open mufflers, 100 sirens and led blinkers since their intensified operations last month.

The law enforcers gave teeth on a traffic law prohibiting the use of open mufflers after receiving numerous complaints against noisy motorists roaming during ungodly hours.

Using a construction roller, seized items were destroyed while would-be drivers at the LTO office watch.

Region 10 Director Oscar Salcedo said this should serve as a lesson to the drivers.

Violators were also fined P1,000.

Police City Director Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga is optimistic that this will reduce noise pollution in the city.

LTO district head Monadatu Mangadang further said spare parts distributors shall be required to sell open mufflers only to licensed motocross racers.
