More Marawi soldiers return from battlefield

MANILA - A third batch of soldiers who battled Islamic State-inspired terrorists in Marawi city arrived at Villamor Air Base, Pasay on Saturday.

Hundreds of soldiers from the Marine Battalion Landing Team-10, Philippine Army 1st Battalion and Scout Rangers disembarked a Philippine Air Force C-130 plane and two C-295 planes at about 3 p.m.

The Philippine Army meanwhile welcomed the arrival of the 1st Infantry Battalion from its deployment in the besieged city.

The 2nd Infantry Division, known as the "Jungle Fighters," gave comrades a heroes' welcome on Saturday morning.

Major General Rhoderick Parayano lauded the 1st IB's rescue of 34 hostages from the terrorists.

“Your accomplishments are the proof of the combat expertise and excellence of the Jungle Fighters wherever we may be deployed in country," he said.

"I also take cognizance of the role of your female soldiers. You have shown the world the embodiment of the modern Maria Clara – strong, aggressive, determined, patriotic and above all, lady like and charismatic," he added. --With reports from Michael Delizo, ABS-CBN News
