MANILA -- A low pressure area that is crossing the central Philippines will bring rains to vast swaths of the country on Monday, the state weather bureau said.The brewing storm was spotted over the Sulu Sea, some 150 kilometers west southwest of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at 3 a.m. It will cross the Palawan landmass later Monday, said PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz.Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mamaropa, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Visayas and the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms that may trigger floods or landslides, she said.The weather system will leave the Philippine area on Tuesday before intensifying into a tropical depression and heading for Taiwan, Dela Cruz said. Meanwhile, the amihan or cold winds from the northeast will bring light rains over the northernmost islands of Batanes and Babuyan, said PAGASA.
