<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/news/10/29/20201028-manila-south-cemetery-last-day-visit-gc-1988.jpg"/><figcaption>People make their last-minute visit at the Manila South Cemetery a day before the nationwide closure of cemeteries on October 28, 2020. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATED) </strong>— The Philippines recorded 1,761 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, pushing the nationwide caseload to 376,935, data from the health department showed.</p><p>Of the newly-reported cases, 1,622 or 92 percent occurred within the past 2 weeks. The top regions with cases in the recent 14 days were the National Capital Region (431), Region 4A (322) and Region 3 (155).</p><p>Total recoveries has risen to 329,848, up by 740 from the previous day, the Department of Health (DOH) said in its latest bulletin.</p><p>The country also recorded 33 new fatalities from the respiratory illness, taking the death toll to 7,147.</p><p>As of Thursday, the Philippines has 39,940 active infections, of which 94.2 percent of the patients are exhibiting mild symptoms, while 10.9 percent of the patients are asymptomatic, the DOH said. </p><p>Quezon City led areas in the country that recorded the highest daily additional cases, at 85 confirmed infections, followed by the province of Rizal and Caloocan City with 74 and 73 confirmed cases, respectively. Davao City, meanwhile, recorded 70 new COVID-19 infections, followed by Laguna with 69. </p><p>The DOH said that of the 24,652 people who were tested on Wednesday, 1,613, or 6.5%, tested positive for COVID-19.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sRxndo9PATY?enablejsapi=1" width="560"></iframe></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div><p>Nine duplicates, meanwhile, were removed from the total tally, the DOH said. Of these, 3 were tagged as recovered cases.</p><p>The new cases do not include data from 9 laboratories that failed to submit their results on time. </p><div><strong>PH no longer in top 20 countries with highest COVID-19 cases</strong></div><p>Ukraine, meanwhile, overtook the Philippines in total number of COVID-19 infections after its caseload reached 381,365 Thursday, removing the country from the top 20 countries with the highest level of infections, Johns Hopkins University’s (JHU) coronavirus dashboard showed. </p><p>The Philippines fell to the 21st spot among countries with the highest number of COVID-19 cases globally.</p><p>ABS-CBN News Data Analytics head Edson Guido said there is a possibility that Belgium, with 368,337 total cases, would overtake the country on Friday. </p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">PH NO LONGER IN TOP 20 ‼️<br/><br/>The Philippines was overtaken by Ukraine, dropping to #21 in total COVID-19 cases worldwide.<br/><br/>From Johns Hopkins University dashboard:<br/><br/>20.
