MANILA - An Indonesian terror suspect who allegedly fought alongside terror leaders Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon in Marawi City was charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) Thursday.Muhammad Ilham Syahputra, 22, was turned over to the police and military by members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) who arrested him Wednesday during a clearing operation in Barangay Luksa Datu, Marawi City, while trying to escape.On Thursday, he underwent inquest proceedings for rebellion, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and violation of the International Humanitarian Law.Recovered from the suspect were a fragmentation grenade, a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine with 7 rounds of live ammunition, a tablet, jewelry, and various currencies.Syahputra was brought to the national police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City Wednesday night.The Indonesian national did not sign a waiver under Article 125 of the Revised Penal Code, which pertains to delays in the delivery of detained persons to the courts. He opted to no longer answer charges against him.Inquest prosecutor Assistant State Prosecutor Ethel Rea Suril has 36 hours to resolve the case filed by the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), through Chief Inspector Maximo Sumeg-ang.Syahputra, who hails from North Sumatra, is being linked to the 2016 Jakarta terror attack that left 4 people dead. His arrest came days after government declared the <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/23/17/marawi-combat-ops-finally-over-lorenzana">end of hostilities</a> in Marawi City.He is said to have joined the 5-month long fighting in Marawi, which left at least 1,100 people dead and forced more than 200,000 residents to flee.
