A patrol car of the Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday hit a motorcycle in Iligan City, immediately killing its driver. Handout
ILIGAN—A motorist died after figuring in a collision with a Philippine Coast Guard patrol car along C3 road in this city Wednesday morning.
Cresencio Atwil, 58, was on his motorcycle when it struck the patrol car at an intersection. The Coast Guard vehicle was part of a convoy carrying a military and medical team out to serve Marawi refugees encamped in Baloi town, Lanao del Norte.
“Initial na report nila sa akin na, while on their way to Baloi doon po sa crossing sa C3, pilit daw po na nag-overtake iyong motor," Lt. Boyet Cayabo of the Philippine Coast Guard said.
"Para po doon sa family kami po ay humihingi ng pasesnya kasi po di naman sinadya.”

Atwil’s family has filed a charge of homicide against the patrol car's driver.
The Coast Guard has offered to settle hospital bills and shoulder the victim's burial.
