MANILA—Tropical storm Ramon slowed down while remaining almost stationary, the state weather bureau said Friday, but it is expected to make landfall in Cagayan province on Sunday afternoon.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the PAGASA said Ramon was spotted at 4 p.m. approximately 490 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan while packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and 80 kph gusts.

Ramon could weaken to a tropical depression on Tuesday and exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, the weather agency said.

Storm signal no. 1 is still raised over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, and northern Aurora.

Meanwhile, a typhoon (international name Fenghshen) was also spotted at 3 p.m. at about 2,155 km east of extreme northern Luzon with strong 150 kph winds near the center and 185 kph gusts, while moving northwest at 25 kph. The PAGASA said it may not enter the PAR.

Meanwhile, the PAGASA also issued a gale warning over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan Islands, Aurora, Quezon including Polillo Island, Camarines Provinces, Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay and eastern coast of Sorsogon.

On Saturday, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains could be experienced over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, and northern Aurora.

On Sunday, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains could prevail over the eastern portion of Cagayan and Isabela.

Light to light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains, meanwhile, will be experienced in Apayao, northern Aurora and the rest of Cagayan and Isabela.

The weather bureau said gusty conditions could be experienced Friday in northern Luzon, especially in coastal and mountainous areas due to the northeast monsoon enhanced by Ramon.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small seacraft, over the seaboards of areas under storm signals, the seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions.

Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to flooding and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures.
