Storm 'Tino' to make landfall in Palawan on Friday

MANILA (UPDATE) - Tropical depression "Tino" has maintained its strength as it headed for southern Palawan Friday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 remains hoisted over Palawan, where the tropical depression was forecast to hit land in the southern portion of the island before 6 p.m., PAGASA said.

At 4 p.m., the center of 'Tino' was spotted 65 kms east of Puerto Princesa City, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and 90 kph gusts, PAGASA said.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 200-km diameter of the weather system.

Residents in the regions of MIMAROPA, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Panay were alerted against possible flash floods and landslides, PAGASA said.

It is forecast to move west northwest at 28 kph, and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning, it said.
