Priests, public warned vs fake bishop

MANILA - The Archdiocese of Manila has warned its priests as well as the public against a certain individual who introduces himself as a Catholic bishop to scam people. Fr. Regie Malicdem, rector of the Cathedral and Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Manila and chancellor of the Manila archdiocese, said the alleged impostor would usually tell people that there is an event he is organizing and would ask that he be referred to a caterer.He would then ask the priest, church staff, or the caterer for P5,000 worth of cellphone load. &quot;Please warn your parish staff about this scheme. He is very insistent and demanding. Many parishes have already been victimized,&quot; Malicdem said without divulging the name of the alleged impostor.Malicdem added that the case has been reported to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). &quot;In case your parish receives a call from the scammer, please notify us immediately,&quot; he said.
